Robert Herguth
Robert Herguth is a veteran journalist on his second tour with the Chicago Sun-Times, where he recently returned as a staff reporter.
He’s the former director of investigations at the Better Government Association, a nearly century-old nonpartisan nonprofit that engages in investigative journalism on government in Illinois, and the former managing editor of the Milwaukee Business Journal.
Over the years he has contributed to the New York Times, and Newsweek, Chicago and Parenting magazines, as well as Catholic Digest, Irish America and Crain’s Chicago Business.
His interest in religion writing dates back to the early 1990s when he covered the Archdiocese of Chicago for the old City News Bureau of Chicago.
More recently, he founded and ran ChicagoCatholicNews.com and ChicagoReligionNews.com, web publications that covered religion and faith in Illinois.
For more than a decade he’s taught journalism at Loyola University Chicago, where he is faculty adviser to the award-winning student newspaper.
A native of the Chicago area, Herguth graduated from the University of Missouri. He is married with four children.
