When she is not writing, Jeanne can be found in or near the ocean with friends (and sometimes even with their children) Read More

Summary

Kids sucking on restaurant salt shakers—and parents nonchalantly putting them back on the table. Pregnant women driving alone in the carpool lane. Overtly sexy Halloween costumes for third-graders. Random strangers making unsolicited judgements about her reproductive status. These are just a handful of the situations Chicago native Jeanne Bellezzo comically explores in Rantings of a Bitter Childless Woman. Written from the witty, unapologetic perspective of a childless (and far from bitter) woman in a fiercely child-centric society, this collection of entertaining essays will have readers with and without children laughing, nodding, cringing — or throwing a tantrum.

Jeanne Bellezzo began writing Rantings of a Bitter Childless Woman as a blog and was surprised to find many like-minded fans across the country, including numerous parents.

But please keep your kids off her lawn.

Reviews

  • Jeanne has a great gift for finding that pearl of childhood behavioral dysfunction and making it funny. I may be the author of the polar opposite of this book, a parenting humor book called “Father Knows Nothing”, but that only made “The Rantings of a Childless Woman” funnier to me. I’ve often locked eyes with people like Jeanne during my profound public moments of embarrassing parenting failure, and guessed what they must be thinking. After reading this book, it looks like I was correctly reading their minds.

  • Jeanne’s book comes at a time in history where there is a higher number of women without children than ever before. After 30 years as a psychotherapist, I have seen first-hand the frustration childless women experience in our culture. With her quick-witted sense of humor, and pure honesty, she brings a unique and humorous perspective on raising children in today’s society while giving a voice to a growing number of people choosing to create their lives in purposeful ways without children.
