Alex Burkholder was born and raised in Chicago. He received a Master Degree in Journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.During his younger years Alex rode on Chicago Fire Department apparatus and helped fight fires. Alex began his forty-six-year career in journalism with Chicago’s Lerner Newspapers in 1962. Next he moved to WGN Radio and Television News for twenty-one years. A total of ninety-two students and three nuns died as a result of the fire that frigid day December 1st, 1958 at Our Lady of the Angels School on Chicago’s West Side. A fire that occurred only minutes before the end of the school day.
