Grün Weiss Vor! 60 Years of Green White Soccer

Summary
In 1956 a few German-speaking immigrants founded a soccer club on the north side of Chicago. They called it S.C. Grün Weiss. This humble group of eighteen young men had no way of knowing that the club would eventually serve thousands of members, field hundreds of teams, win scores of division, city and state titles, send numerous players into the professional ranks, and enshrine more than a dozen members into the Illinois Soccer Hall of Fame. This book tells the tale of that proud 60-year journey, and features more than 170 classic photographs of the Green White family throughout the years.
The authors, Rick Kaempfer and Todd Schneider, are donating their proceeds from Grün Weiss Vor! 60 Years of Green White Soccer to the club, a not-for-profit organization currently serving the soccer community in the Mt. Prospect area.
Rick Kaempfer was born into the Green White family—his father Eckhard was one of the co-founders. Rick played for Green White youth in the early 70s (including the city champion team in 1974), the early 80s (the Juniors), and the mid-80s (the Reserves). He has MCed every major Green White banquet since the 1996 40th anniversary, and is now part of the Green White senior board (archivist) and Youth Board (communications director). His publishing company Eckhartz Press is partially named after his dad. Rick lives in the northwest suburbs with his wife Bridget and his sons Tommy, Johnny & Sean.
The co-author of Grün Weiss Vor! 60 Years of Green White Soccer is Anthony Todd Schneider, known as “Fritz” to most at Green White. He is a litigator and Managing Attorney at The Law Offices of Capuani & Schneider. He was elected to the Green White Executive Board and became Editor of the Newsletter in the mid-2000s, where his dry wit and sharp pen made the Green White Newsletter a fan favorite. He has been an integral part of the success of the alte herren teams that have won so many trophies and tournaments in the last decade, but particularly delights in the cultural heritage of the club, finding his own family history in align with the backgrounds of so many of the club’s founders. Fritz enjoys seeing all the young, fresh faces wearing the Green White colors and looks forward to another 60 years of Green White growth and success. But more than anything, he is most proud to be the husband of his wife Kathryn and father to his children, Allison and Jack.
