On this day in 2016, the Eckhartz Press book Hugh Hefner’s First Funeral and Other True Tales of Love and Death in Chicago won the Book of the Year award from the Chicago Writers Association. With a cover photo from famed Chicago photographer Barry Butler, illustrations by artist David Mosele, and gritty stories by author Pat Colander about the death of Hugh Hefner’s assistant, the Tylenol killer, the county morgue and more, Hugh Hefner’s First Funeral and Other True Tales of Love and Death in Chicago is one of our publishing companies finest books.
Pat picked up the award from the Chicago Writers Association at their ceremony in January the following year. It was a great night for her.
She passed away almost exactly to the date, two years later.
We still miss her, but her incredible book lives on forever here at Eckhartz Press. It really is an amazing achievement in writing. Pat was a gifted author.
